Things You Shouldn't Do in Mobile Marketing |
|
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, if you wanted a database of email addresses to send out, you could simply buy one. Many companies, even big, well-known brands, were collecting and selling such databases. But people were getting fed up with their personal data and increasingly annoying spam.
Luckily, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the Data Protection Act made it illegal to send commercial emails in this way. In order to contact someone, you had to have their permission or meet conditions for your communication to be considered business-related. These regulations have been in place since 2003 and cover all forms of electronic communication, including Phone and email.
Around the same time, the use of Phone for marketing purposes began, but Phone mailings have only gained significant momentum in the last few years. Of course, you should not buy subscriber lists for Phone mailings, as was previously done with email databases.
2.Never buy subscriber databases
When you first start a mobile marketing campaign, Phone in Cambodia Phone Number List particular, you may want to get a subscriber base by any means necessary. But it's not worth it. The one thing you should never do is buy a base for your mailings.
First, you have no idea how much these people are interested in your offers. If they are not interested in your offers, you will simply throw away money on each message you send them. This is ineffective, and will most likely also end up wasting time. Then you will simply be forced to start collecting a subscriber base in a more correct and legal way.
Secondly, you could get into trouble. If people receive your message and think it is spam (they will if they did not consent to receive the message), they will complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). The ICO's job is to deal with complaints and penalise spam.
According to the latest news, the ICO investigated 62 cases in July 2015. And in early August, they penalized a company for unauthorized mailing. The company was found guilty and received a small fine. But the ICO has issued fines in the hundreds of thousands of pounds. Some of these have since been overturned, but companies have still been found guilty of breaching some aspects of regulation that did not warrant such large fines.
The moral of this story? Don't use subtle tricks when collecting subscriber bases. Work in accordance with the regulations, add to the base only those people who really want to be there and reap the benefits that mobile marketing can bring you.
